You can’t turn a corner in Thailand without coming across a massage parlor. They’re an integral part of Thai culture and a great way to relax and unwind. A good Thai massage is valued by everyone and now it seems that they’re considered so important that they’re going to be added to the UNESCO world cultural heritage list.
Recent discussions between the Health Service Support Department Director General Dr, Boonruang Trairuangworawat, the Department for Development of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine and the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO seemed to suggest that Thai massage should be added, but there are a few things that need to be done first. Firstly, good reasons must be given for its inclusion. What better reason than they’re awesome?
Thai massage dates back more than 600 years. If it’s added to the list, it will join other famous Thai places and professions such as Sukothai, Ayutthaya, Ban Chiang, Thung YaiHuey Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, and Khao Yai forest.
