Over the years Phuket has become one of the biggest sailing hubs in South East Asia, not to mention the world. People from all over the globe come to the south of Thailand for the sole purpose of luxury sailing and as a result a number of high quality Marinas have sprung up in the region.
Recent reports have it that two new marinas will soon be built in Phuket in an effort to build economic growth in the industry. These constructions will be a part of a much larger project where 8 marinas in total will be built in the south of Thailand, four will be put in place near the Andaman sea and another four will be constructed in the gulf of Thailand.
All marinas will be able to accommodate regular yachts and some will be able to take super yachts in coastal areas such as Phuket, Phang Nga and Koh Samui. There will also be new marinas in Chonburi and Trat, further north. The marinas in Phuket are set to be built in Rassada and Pa Khlok. Rassada will be home to the Asian Marina and Pa Khlok will house the larger Kung Bay Marina, where super yachts can take port.
Construction of the projects is scheduled to begin within the next few years and it is estimated that the Kung Bay Marina should take around a year to complete. With so many new marinas being built in the region, it won’t be long until Phuket joins the ranks of the Mediterranean as being one of the biggest marine leisure hubs around.
