Thailand basically has two seasons, hot and dry, and hot and rainy. The dry period is when most people travel, the coastal towns and islands gain a lot of tourism during this stretch of the year. When the rains come they can hit pretty hard, causing people to travel less. This is why we’ve made up a list of the best places you can go during the rainy season.

Khao Yai

Khao Yai is Thailand’s most famous national park. There are more waterfalls due to the rain and because it’s low season, there are discounts everywhere.

This border town near Myanmar is great during the rainy season because the Khao Lam Dam is at its peak and there are loads of water based activities.

Nhakon Si Thammarat

While the Andaman seas are a no-go during the rainy season, the gulf of Thailand is another story. The rainy season is a great time to go there because the sea breezes are a lot cooler and there isn’t as much rain as in other areas of Thailand.

If you like mountains, this is the place to go. It’s a lot cooler this time of year and there are fun activities everywhere.

Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai is the more relaxed version of Chiang Mai. It’s a great place to go this time of year because the rains make it very green.
