Mr. Richard Branson, founder of the very successful British multinational conglomerate Virgin Group, has decided to expand his Virgin airline service to Thailand. Having already set up two radio stations and a fitness venture here, Mr. Branson feels right at home in the Land of Smiles. With this latest venture it would seem that his own perpetual smile is set to grow even wider, if past success within the aviation industry is anything to go by. Since introducing his Virgin Australia Airlines, formerly Virgin Blue, fifteen years ago, the airline has now taken 35 percent of the Australian aviation business market share, rivalling that of Qantas. Not bad for an airline that started out with only one plane.
One of the reasons Mr. Branson chose to branch out to Thailand was because the Thai people are very easy going and easy to work with and Thailand has a lot to offer. Thailand was the first country outside Britain to have a Virgin radio show. The 95.5 Virgin Hits station started in 2002 and now, thirteen years later, Virgin Star FM 98 has joined the ranks.
Mr. Branson was in Bangkok on Sunday, visiting his radio stations briefly before moving on to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. He stated that the one thing that was keeping radio alive was the live human interaction between DJ’s and listeners. His fitness centers are also doing well, with three Virgin Active Thailand centers at Empire Tower, EmQuartier and Central Plaza Westgate in Bangkok and four more on the way.
Mr. Richard Branson is the smiling face of success all around the world so his new Virgin airplanes in Thailand are sure to take off. We look forward to their arrival.
