The Phuket Marine Department (PMD) has sent out a warning that all small boats, under 10-metres long, should not set sail from Phuket today due to the heavy rain and strong winds that are expected to continue across the region. A letter was sent out by the PMD stating that due to the strong gusts of wind, large waves reaching up to four metres are expected in the Andaman Sea.
Travel to islands such as Koh Phi Phi and Koh Racha is strictly forbidden but for those needing to travel by small boat to islands that are near to Phuket, it is still ok to do so. Travel to islands such as Coral Island, Koh Lon and other islands in Phang Nga Bay is still permitted, but the Phuket Marine Department is urging citizens to be cautious. Anyone wishing to travel across the Phang Nga Bay area should pay close attention to weather forecasts and should also be prepared to follow official orders.
A large amount of rubbish has been washed ashore, all along the Western coastline of Phuket. Reports have come in stating that all of Bangtao Beach has been covered with debris. The Monsoon winds have caused waves to push large objects such as driftwood, fishing nets and other forms of waste, from the sea onto the sand.
This year the Monsoon winds are expected to be stronger than on previous years so all residents of Phuket are being urged to be careful, no matter where they are on the island.
