Despite a severely damaged road near the Samkong intersection, the underpass construction in the area is still going ahead. Last Thursday, severe storms damaged roads in the area and even affected one of the underpass walls. The road is back to normal now so commuters can use it again, meaning there will be the usual traffic jams in no time at all.
There are pros and cons to the underpass. In many ways it will make things easier for people to get around but locals and tourists alike have been complaining about the traffic congestion that such constructions can cause on the island. The underpass construction is set to be completed by June but whether or not that will happen is yet to be seen. In the meantime it looks like things are going to have to be clogged up on the roads before things get cleared up again. Once construction on the tunnel is complete, things are sure to flow a lot smoother. With a bit of luck, traffic in Phuket will become a thing of the past.
