Do you think it’s possible to swim around the entire island of Phuket? If your answer is yes, then here’s another question. Do you think you’d be able to swim around the entire island of Phuket? One person has gone ahead and done just that though, Swedish Ultraman World Champion Jonas Colting has become the first man to swim around the entire island.
The circumference of Phuket is around 140 kilometers so swimming around it is no hop skip and jump. The Ultraman champion who achieved this feat was accompanied by his training partners, Thobias Peterson and Daniel Karlsson Engdahl throughout all eight legs of the endeavor. All up, the journey took 8 days and around 17 kilometers was covered on each one of them. Swimming around Phuket isn’t like swimming in a swimming pool either, there are many things to take into consideration such as winds, currents, sunburn and all the potentially dangerous sea creatures lurking in the deep.
The good thing about it all is that now Jonas Colting has finished this remarkable achievement, he’ll be able to relax at Thanyapura Phuket, his base whilst staying on the island. Also, this benchmark should serve to inspire other marathon swimmers from all around the world to take on the challenge. With a bit of luck and planning, this could very well become an annual event.
