Don’t get me wrong, Thai food is great. As far as International cuisines go, the Thais have some of the best on the Planet. Living in Thailand, I enjoy eating Thai food on a regular, almost daily, basis but every now and then my taste buds crave something different. There are plenty of fast food restaurants like Mcdonald’s around to cater to my Western tastes but they don’t really do it for me unless I’m hungover. Indian food is wonderful, as is Italian, Japanese, Korean and many other types of dishes from different countries around the world. I’m getting a little too used to these options though, and that’s why I was pleased when a friend steered me towards a newly opened Mexican restaurant in Phuket.
The Mexican Cherngtalay restaurant is one of those places where you feel right at home, the moment you step through the door. The food matches the feeling of the atmosphere too. The dishes have an authentic taste and the cocktails leave you wanting more. Having lived in Thailand for five years I’ve grown accustomed to spicy food but every now and then I come across a restaurant that goes a little overboard. At the Mexican I found that the dishes were a little bit spicy but not so much that it overwhelmed the flavors.
The prices at the Mexican were quite good too, with cheap Margaritas and beers all throughout the night. The Staff were friendly and there was a sense that great care is taken with all operations, even the smaller aesthetic details.
The Mexican Cherngtalay is a great place to go for a meal and a fun night out with friends. I would urge all food lovers to go and check it out.
