Many people worldwide associate Thailand with yummy Asian food, rejuvenating massages and exciting nightlife. Thailand is the second largest economy in Southeast Asia. This emerging economy has produced many super rich billionaires.

10) Thaksin Shinawatra (Net worth: $1.7 billion)

Thaksin Shinawatra is the former prime minister of Thailand. This 65-year-old self-made billionaire made his fortune through smart investments. He has a controlling stake in SC Asset, a real estate developer.

9) Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha (Net worth: $2.5 billion)

Self-made billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha’s King Power has a monopoly on retail operations at Bangkok’s Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi airports. This duty free king is currently working on expanding his business outside Thailand. Vichai owns 4% stake in Thai budget airline Nok Air. He is also the owner and chairman of English football club Leicester City.

8) Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth (Net worth: $2.8 billion)

This 82-year-old self-made billionaire is the founder of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services, the largest private healthcare group in Thailand. The group operates 35 hospitals in Thailand and two hospitals in Cambodia. In November, Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth raised $395 million by listing his regional airline Bangkok Airways.

7) Santi Bhirombhakdi & family (Net worth: $2.9 billion)

Brewery baron Santi Bhirombhakdi owns the popular Singha beer and Singha Estate (Rasa Property Development) which he acquired in 2014 and plans to invest $3 billion in new projects and buying London property. Santi is rebuilding his family’s 82-year-old Boon Rawd Brewery empire into five different businesses which inlcude a non-alcohol units.

6) Vanich Chaiyawan (Net worth: $4 billion)

Vanich Chaiyawan is a self-made billionaire who made his fortune in insurance and beverages. This 83-year-old businessman is the chairman of Thai Life, Thailand’s second-largest life insurance company. Vanich Chaiyawan has 60 percent stake in Thai Life.

5) Krit Ratanarak (Net worth: 4.7 billion)

Krit Ratanarak made his fortune in media and real estate. This billionaire’s wealth increased as shares of Bank of Ayudhya more than doubled during last year. Krit Ratanarak has a minority stake in the bank.

4) Chalerm Yoovidhya (Net Worth: $9.6 billion)

Chalerm Yoovidhya is the oldest son of late Red Bull co-founder Chaleo. He now heads the business empire which family which owns 51% of Red Bull. The iconic drinks brand sold a record 5.6 billion cans in 2014.

3) Tos Chirathivat & family (Net Worth: $12.3 billion)

Thailand wealthiest family, the Chirathivat family made the Forbes with $12.3 billion. The family fortune came from     retail and real estate. The biggest retail clan in Thailand is control by Tos Chirathivat, the grandson of Central Retail’s founder. They are expanding their businesses beyond Thailand;  the group recently bought 49% in Nguyen Kim, an electronics retailer in Vietnam and are also building a shopping mall in Malaysia’s Selangor region.

2) Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi (Net worth: $13 billion)

Self-made billionaire Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi’s wealth increased due to rise in shares of Thai Beverage, the largest brewer in Thailand. He holds vast real estate interests through TCC Land and Frasers Centerpoint.

1) Dhanin Chearavanont (Net worth: $14.4 billion)

Dhanin Chearavanont is the richest man in Thailand. This 76-year-old billionaire added $2.2 billion to his wealth last year. Shares of his most valuable holding, Chinese insurer Ping An, surged 40 percent in the same period. Dhanin Chearavanont began year 2015 by partnering Japanese trading firm Itochu for a 20 percent stake in China International Trust and Investment Corporation for $10.2 billion.
