There’s no doubt about it, traveling around Phuket via boat is a great way to go. The island offers so much beautiful scenery from the inside with its beautiful mountains and beaches and also provides stunning sights to see when viewed from a sailing vessel out in the ocean.
The officials at the Phuket Marine Office might have gone a little overboard though with their most recent maritime proposal. Apparently a 25 million baht project is in the works to get a boat transportation service from Phuket International Airport to the resort towns on the west coast of the island. The project, titled ‘From the Boat to the Plane’ is set to go ahead after already being approved for the early stages. If it all goes according to plan, Taxis would take new arrivals from the International airport to nearby piers and from there they would then be taken by boat to their destinations.
To some this might seem a little ridiculous as the last thing a lot of Tourists want when hopping off a plane is to be taken on a boat trip, but for the more intrepid travelers out there it can be seen as another part of the adventure. Another criticism is that building a pier along Mai Khao Beach, where the service would be provided, could prove quite difficult due to heavy waves and currents in the area.
Whatever the outcome, it should be interesting to see how the project moves along. A boat service to your resort might be the perfect way to enter the stunning island of Phuket, provided those in charge of the project can plan ahead accordingly.
