Since it was first announced that the Star Wars franchise had been bought by Disney, every fan across the globe has been wondering what the next installment would be like. As it got closer to the release date, fans began to grip their light sabers in anticipation. The hype grew and grew until it almost seemed like people were awaiting the second coming of Jesus, or whatever other Messianic figure is due to return. In the month of December, everywhere was abuzz with talk of the new Star Wars movie; what the story would be like, what twists would happen and whether or not the whole movie would be any good.
Most people agree that the prequels that were made around the turn of the century were a bit of a let down. Die hard fans of the original have been praying to the force that history wouldn’t repeat itself. Well the Force has finally awoken. Thailand was fortunate enough to have screenings of the new movie ahead of most other countries due partly to its timezone and also a release date that came a bit earlier than a lot of other places.
So what’s the verdict? Well I think it’s safe to say that the Force Awakens is a pretty good film. It has the same feel and charm of the original movies and the 70’s space opera aesthetic has been gorgeously maintained. The story is good and there are a few surprises in store for the audience. I’m tempted to write down a list of spoilers, just to annoy those of you who haven’t seen it yet, but I won’t. Let’s just say it gets a little bit like Game of Thrones.
Regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of the series, you should definitely check it out. It’s already being considered one of the best movies of 2015. Thailand has many great cinemas to watch movies in so if you’re traveling around the country, take a break from sight seeing and go see what all the fuss is about.
