Russians have always loved coming to Phuket but this year more than usual have been arriving here. The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR)have concluded that the increase in numbers is due to the lack of tourist flow from Russia to Egypt.
The inaccessibility to Egypt isn’t the only reason tourists from Russia are going to islands like Phuket and Koh Samui though, great deals on flights, hotels and tour packages are also a contributing factor. Overall, the average amount of tourists coming to Thailand is the same as in 2015 but there has been a 30 percent increase in bookings for Russians going to both Phuket and Chang. Most tourists choose Phuket, followed by Chang and then Samui.
Another trend that experts have noticed is that people tend to book their tickets at the last moment. Also, the popularity of Pattaya has declined among Russian tourists, who now prefer Phuket. Travelers with a high income are also coming to Thailand more frequently and for longer periods of time.
On May 10, the Thailand Tourism Administration stated that in 2016 so far, Thailand has been visited by no less than 1 million Russians. The prediction is that these numbers will grow.
