Due to the new regulations future Half Moon, New Moon parties won’t happen on Koh Phangan anymore. The only exception is the monthly Full Moon Party which attracts thousands of tourists each month.
Phangan district chief Krirkkrai Songthani said it was noise complaints from locals driving the decision, effective this past Sunday, to ban all the other parties.
Koh Phangan tourist association president Wannee Thaipanich stated the ban would only be on the “cheap” and “unqualified” parties, Thai PBS reported. She also added that special permission must be acquired before organizing any other parties.
Tourism is estimated to bring in THB7 billion annually to Koh Phangan, much of it for face paint and buckets of Sangsom.
