If you say you are going to Bangla it usually means you are going for the bars, nightlife, discos and many drinks. People have been trying to get me to visit Higher Restaurant but I have always resisted but finally gave in the other night and was very pleasantly surprised
Higher is above the well-known disco Seduction, but has its own escalator (just to the beach side of the entrance to Seduction). There is even a lift around the back but not easy to find apart from when you are on your way out.
Higher has an eclectic crowd with people dressed in HiSo very elegant outfits to beach wear and from this 4th floor open air restaurant and bar you can be a voyeur on Bangla- overlooking the street, bars and especially Moulin Rouge with its Russian ladies and of course seeing all the Katoys passing by. After dinner it is an easy walk down stairs to Seduction which really kicks in about midnight
Whilst the food menu is large with snacking food of pizzas, pastas, burgers and Thai food all in the range of 200-500 baht, there are also some good share plates of Sashimi to be married with a large range of cocktails and wines
Steve Cromis an Aussie Expat is the General manger and has built a team of very good attentive service staff. The kitchen is headed by Chef Ronnie Macuja who has been on the island about 15 years. His forte is not the pub fare but the high end gourmet food and if you are going there I suggest you contact Ronnie and see if he can do something special for you. I have known Ronnie about 5 years and he put on a very special dinner for us the other night
As it is open air it can get a bit warm and noisy but I hear the owner is considering creating a VIP dining area for 6-8 tables that will be enclosed and air-conditioned that will also cut down the noise and create an environment where Chef Ronnie can really show his kitchen skills for special food
