Good news is coming for Americans facing passport and visa problems in Phuket. They won’t have to go to the bother of travelling all the way to Bangkok in order to get things done. The Consular Section of the American Embassy in Bangkok will be holding an Outreach Visit at Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort in Karon on the 30th of October to help out with issues such as Passport renewal applications for both adults and children, as well as passport replacements for passports that have been lost or stolen.
Passport renewal will cost US$110.00 or 3,960 baht for adult passports, and $105.00 or 3,780 baht each for children. Lost or stolen passports are another matter though. Passport applications for a lost or stolen passport will cost US$135 or 4,860 baht for adult passports and US$105 or 3,780 baht for children. If applying for a lost or stolen passport, applicants will need to bring a copy of a police report and any photocopies or scans of the lost or stolen passport.
All applications can be conveniently made in Phuket, but the passports will still be taken to the US Embassy in Bangkok for processing, the next working day. Prepaid Thailand Post envelopes can be purchased at the outreach visit for 80 baht, which is a lot cheaper than any bus, train or plane fare to the capital.
This is tremendously convenient news for all American expats on the island. Hopefully Consulars for other Countries will soon come down from Bangkok as well so that everyone from around the world who is living in Phuket won’t have to leave if they ever face Passport problems.
If you’re an American and would like more information about these passport services please visit the US Embassy website.
