Recently, a plan to bring China and Thailand even closer together was arranged through the development of a new railway project that would link the two nations via a line running through Nong Khai. In the last few days, the project had been put on hold however, due to a dispute about rubber. An agreement made between China and Thailand apparently stipulated that Thai rubber would be used for the project but China seemed to go back on the deal.
It seemed that this issue was going to be a major hurdle in the project, possibly ending it completely, but in recent news the Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said that everything would still be going ahead but precautions were going to be made to make sure that the entire project is mutually beneficial for both countries.
The entire project will be made up of two connecting railways, one running from Bangkok to Nong Khai through Kaeng Khoi (in Saraburi) and Nakhon Ratchasima and the other running from Kaeng Khoi to Map Ta Phut in Rayong. The tracks will cover 867 km in total and the entire project should cost around 350 billion baht.
The signing for the agreement should be a great advantage for both countries. With such an efficient railway service put in place, traveling around Thailand will become even easier and more enjoyable.
