Bangkok is considered one of the least polluted major cities in the world.
For anyone who has traveled to or lives in Bangkok, it might be hard to believe the title of this article, but it’s true apparently. Recent research has revealed that Bangkok is one of the freshest big cities in world with regards to air pollution. Surprisingly, and a little unbelievably, Bangkok beat such famous cities as Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Sydney when it came to breathe-ability.
Of 28 major cities surveyed around the globe, Bangkok was found to have the lowest levels of air pollution. The study was based on the Air Quality Index (AQI) and temperature of each city during October this year. Countries with an AQI over 151 are considered highly polluted. Unsurprisingly Beijing came in at 328, which is not only hazardous for people but also the environment. Dubai’s AQI was 222, another unhealthy level.
Washington DC came in at a relatively low 24 but the lowest level found was 18 in Bangkok. This is sure to raise a few eyebrows as Bangkok is notorious for heavy traffic and exhaust pipes that spew forth plumes of black smoke. Perhaps the findings are true or maybe this is an example of why you shouldn’t always believe everything the media tells you.
