Thailand has become a popular destination to shoot international films, and in recent years, we have seen such productions as “Hangover 2” and “The Impossible” that bring recognition to the skills and facilities on offer in Thailand. Hollywood has played an important role in the development of Thailand’s film industry. In the past the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” with Roger Moore, “Rambo” with Sylvester Stallone, “Kickboxer” with Jean Claude van Damme and “The Beach” with Leonardo di Caprio as well as scenes of Bridget Jones, Star Wars, The Scorpion King and many more were shot here in Thailand.
Moreover, the recall of the TV show “German Idol” took place in Krabi this year. The latest production was “Mechanic Resurrection” with Jason Statham, Jessica Alba and Tommy Lee Jones that took place in Bangkok, Krabi and at the Boat Lagoon Marina here on Phuket. Some scenes were also shot on board a 63-meter super yacht. The film will be released in January 2016.
“Thailand has become a popular spot for shooting international movies. Many Hollywood productions have been taking place here. The country offers a huge diversity of natural and cultural sites. That makes it very attractive and moreover the production costs are quite low”, says Christian Schwind, General Manager of Andaman Cruises.
Last December even a Russian movie was filmed aboard one of Andaman Cruises’ yachts. The Russian Government and the Russian Film Industry supported the production. The plot was about an airplane that crashed and the passengers were lost on an island. Most of the scenes were shot in Krabi and the Phi Phi maritime national park.
