You would think that in order to be the 3rd highest ranking scrabble champion in the world, you would probably have a strong command of the English language. This isn’t the case with Komol Panyasophonlert however, the Thai champ certainly has an extensive vocabulary but stringing the words he knows together can be quite difficult.
Komol is currently the world’s third ranked player and yet he struggles to speak the English language. He is a computer programmer who has memorized most of the words in the English dictionary but what he hasn’t memorized is their meanings. His method is to memorize small words first and then longer ones after. Definitions don’t mean much to him, it would seem.
With the King’s Cup tournament upon us, Komol aims to win the championship with his unique skills. The King’s cup is the largest scrabble competition in the world, with over 6,000 participants, so it would be quite a funny achievement if the winner was someone who couldn’t speak English fluently. We wish him the best of luck.
