You won’t escape the US elections today. No matter how hard you try. In related news, the new senator for the state of Illinois will be Tammy Duckworth, a Thai-American Democrat. A first in American history. She was born in Bangkok to a Thai-Chinese mother and a U.S. Vietnam War veteran father.
In a victory for the Democrats, she takes over from Republican, Mark S. Kirk. She’s quite the lady. Having lost both of her legs in Iraq, serving as a pilot in the Iraq War, in 2014. When flying her helicopter over enemy troops her aircraft was brought down by a grenade. She can’t have expected, at that moment, to be sitting as a senator in 2016, in Illinois.
In her victory, Miss Duckworth took to Facebook to thank her supporters and give an emotional post about how America didn’t give up on her at her most difficult time. Let’s hope America doesn’t find itself in difficult times when the day is up. The election results are coming in fast. Keep your eyes peeled.
