With so many amazing meat dishes around Thailand it can be very hard maintaining a vegetarian diet. When asking for a vegetarian dish at a restaurant, a lot of chefs seem to interpret the request as an order for a vegetable dish with a bit of meat added on the side. Being a full blown vegetarian can be difficult in Thailand but for those of you out there who have a strict vegetarian diet, there’s good news for the month ahead; the Phuket vegetarian Festival is fast approaching.
October is World Vegetarian Awareness month and this year the Phuket Vegetarian festival is taking place right in the middle of it. Many restaurants around the island are getting on board. The Hard Rock Cafe is expanding its Vegetarian menu and so are many other venues around Phuket.
Some people might think that meals without meat are boring but quite often they can be just as exciting. The festival will offer up a vast range of veggie dishes from all around the globe, such as the American Southwest, Morocco, Mediterranean areas, as well as all over Asia.
For those who love burgers, there will also be vege-burgers on offer in some places, with everything from potatoes, shitakes, portabellas, balsamic glaze, barley thyme and other seasonings in the patties. Fruits will be on the menu as well, with a number of fascinating fruit juice concoctions such as beetroot, orange and ginger, and even pear, cucumber and kale being offered at some restaurants.
The festival is sure to offer up a veritable vegetarian feast so be sure to try all the dishes on offer when you’re enjoying your stay on the lovely island of Phuket.
