Once again it’s almost time for the Patong Carnival. A time for everyone in Phuket to get into the festive mindset and let loose. According to Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup, this year’s festival is going to maintain its rich tradition by providing fun activities and loads of entertainment. For the first time ever, the Patong Seafood Festival will also be happening at the same time so there are now two great reasons to stay on the island. This year is the 30th year of the carnival and a lot of fantastic things are expected to mark the occasion. Alongside the Seafood festival there will be parades and cultural shows to liven up the atmosphere.
The Patong carnival usually comes around at the start of the tourism high season to start everything off with a bang. With the Seafood festival, tourists and locals will be able to enjoy all the mouth-watering dishes that Phuket has on offer and because of this festival there will be even more to choose from than usual. Bangla Rd, Soi Post Office (Soi Praisanee) and Soi Dr Wattana, will be the main areas for the festival so be sure to go to those locations for the best seafood around.
There will be plenty of other zones set up for the carnival such as the Entertainment Zone, which will include a vast variety of performances, including live music and cultural shows, and the Global Tastes Seafood Zone, which will provide international food with seafood. There’s also the Local Way Zone, which will focus on street food and local cuisine.
A special presentation about endangered marine animals and marine environmental protection and conservation will also be a major part of the carnival. The full programme for the festival hasn’t been outlined yet so there should be even more to come. Stay tuned and free up your schedule towards the end of October and the beginning of November. Fun times are ahead in Phuket.
