In most countries, people make a bit of a fuss about Mother’s Day and Father’s Day but no one ever really cares about Children’s Day. This isn’t the case in Thailand however. Children’s Day here is a fun filled affair for the whole family. It isn’t uncommon to see Parents taking their children to zoos and amusement parks and other fun loving locations. It really is a heart warming event, unless of course you get caught out at a busy shopping mall filled with screaming kids.
This Saturday will mark the 60th anniversary of the event, which started in Thailand in 1956. Each year there is a different slogan and the one for this year is ‘Knowledge and Virtue together will move us into the future.’
In Phuket there will be many locations to go to in order to celebrate the joy of children. The Phuket International Hospital will host a variety of games and information sessions, as will Saphan Hin in Phuket Town which will also host an awards ceremony for outstanding children. Other areas for fun will include Patong, the Phuket Aquarium and the Prince of Songkhla University.
No matter where you end up, you’re sure to have a great time. Be prepared to see plenty of young smiling faces.
