With the Bike for Mum event being such a huge success, the tradition is being continued with the Bike for Dad bicycle ride which will take place around the King of Thailand’s birthday in December. If you’ve been traveling around Bangkok and other parts of Thailand you’ve probably noticed a lot of locals wearing bright blue t-shirts with the Bike for Dad logo printed across them. This is done to show support for the wholesome event. So far over 600,000 people have registered to take part in the event this year to honor the 88th birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Around 100,000 of the riders will be from Bangkok and most of the rest will be from other provinces. The bike ride will be held on the 11th of December in a variety of places around Thailand and the rest of the world. The day will not be an official public holiday but talks are being made to allow employers from certain companies and students from various schools to have the day off so they can participate.
The idea for this event was made by his Royal Highness Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn in an effort to show appreciation for his father. The Crown Prince will also lead the Bike for Dad event. Commemorative books will be made so that people can have souvenirs of the occasion. These books will be available in February for Government agencies and the general public. The whole occasion is being presented as a symbolic gesture of unity amongst Thai people. It is expected that the family friendly event will run smoothly and a good time will be had by all.
