It was a great pleasure to meet DJ Chrismyk before his gig at Seduction night club in Patong (Phuket). Finally we know how to reach stars like Rihanna and Beyonce and make remixes for them. Your dream is much closer than you might think.
What made you become a DJ and how long you have been on the scene?
I started Disk Jockeying when I was 14 years old. Back then it was purely vinyl and there was no easy way out into becoming a DJ. My interest for the career had its genesis as a hobby from the day I met a friend who was DJ-ing. I remember being too drawn to what he was doing. I simply wanted to learn his craft especially that I love and I am passionate about music. Everything snowballed from there – I later on mustered enough confidence and experience to start making my own remixes and original tracks.
Tell us about Philippine music and the dance scene. Who is on top, what are the trends?
I won’t hesitate to say that the Philippine music scene today is simply amazing. Thanks to Spectrum Experience and SMART Communications who are continuously making music festivals in the different regions of the country. It is also through their collective efforts that international top Djs like Tiesto, Zedd, Alesso and more have been enjoyed here by the growing Filipino fans. It is then safe to assume that, really, through these events and exposure, the dance and music scene are being more embraced and loved by every Filipino. It is also important to note that, today, there are a lot of great Filipino DJs everyone should watch out for. Among them are Ace Ramos, XFactor, Jennifer Lee, Mars Miranda, Arra Pascual, Carlo Atendidio, and Katsy Lee. These are Filipino DJs who have made a name for themselves and the country in the Industry.
You are mostly produce and work with international stars. Tell us about your recent projects? And plans?
I love making original dance music, together with my partner Gani Valenzuela. We call ourselves as THE GROOVE MAKERS. We are currently working on, and are on the verge of, fulfilling our lifelong goals of collaborating with globally-renowned artists sharing the same love for music. For now we continue to make distinct, signature sounds that define us as an artist – we continue producing original tracks and I get to perform them on events. It is a priceless feeling and great sense of fulfillment when you see people dancing and getting wild to the music you make. Here is a sample of our original work:
How would it work if you wanted to produce a remix for Rihanna or Beyonce?
This privilege shouldn’t come hard for someone who sincerely loves making remixes and bootlegs. To be recognized or considered by any of these big artists is really something all of us in this field of interest commonly dream of. How to work with them is something I have yet to find out. But I am sure it will be great and humbling. For now, I simply make remixes and share them and play them on my sets.
Here’s on of our best remix for the year:
What is your favorite music style?
I am an open format DJ. I simply go with the flow and play what they want to hear and what would make them go crazy on the dance floor. And I often find myself sharing the same tastes in music as the people I play it for. It is an effortless mutual love actually for the song selections. I can play EDM, Top 40, HipHop and other genres. So expect me to drop Top 40 tracks with a touch of Electro during my live sets.
Your wishes to all readers of our website.
