When an invitation to an event at The Nai Harn hotel comes my way, I readily accept. Some treats are not to be missed.
What’s the thing that makes the events at The Nai Harn irresistible for me? They often showcase some of the best labels in the world. How do I know they are the best? The Nai Harn made it clear that they are serious about wine by forging a relationship with one of the best-known wine experts around – James Suckling. There are names out there that you simply can trust, and Suckling is one of them.
And so, one recent Saturday, I made my way down Phuket’s busy west coast to The Nai Harn, for a dinner with Casanova di Neri wines from winemaker Giacomo Neri – “one of the masters of Brunello,” according to Suckling.
Frankly, Casanova di Neri wines don’t need my seal of approval – 100-points scores for some of his previous vintages speak for themselves. Still, allow me to say that each of the six wines served that evening was an experience in itself. And each came paired with delightful food from the Nai Harn’s Executive Chef Mark Jones. Carpaccio of Coral Trout, Wagyu Rib Eye with Black Truffle Pommes Purée, Aged Pecorino Cheese with Spiced Pear Chutney – every dish served that evening would be well worth the trip down south, and each confirmed The Nai Harn’s position on Phuket’s culinary map.
But don’t take my word for it, take Suckling’s…or judge for yourself. Between The Nai Harn’s recently launched Sunday Brunch and a wide array of wine dinners and other cuisine-focused events, there will be plenty of opportunities to do that.
