There’s no doubting Thais have a very elegant and unique sense of fashion and style. Now it seems people from overseas are noticing their beauty. Recently a Thai designer won two awards in the 20th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Los Angeles. The traditional checker-print sarong fabric commonly worn by Thai grandpas wowed both audience members and judges alike at the competition.
This isn’t the first time Thai designs have impressed International audiences, in recent pageants the “Tuk Tuk dress” and the “Wat Phra Kaew dress” also made quite an impression. Thai designers Pikul Choompol and Sarinpat Jundawong have created a more subdued and practical dress for this event though. This is something that anyone could wear on any day.
Their “Pha Khao Ma Dress” showcased the refined Thai style perfectly last week at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. It took awards away in two categories: Exceptional Designer and World Exceptional Costume.
